We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer with strong Azure experience to join an AI Build Team.

You will work closely with the client's technical teams to build and automate Azure environments, codify infrastructure and governance, and deliver reliable CI/CD pipelines.

This is a client-facing consulting role where you will engage directly with enterprise clients across financial services, telecommunications, government, and other sectors. You will provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and drive the adoption of best practices.

The ideal candidate is a problem solver with a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, and a passion for driving innovation in cloud infrastructure.

Role Summary

Hands-on DevOps / platform engineering role with strong Azure focus: build and maintain Azure Landing Zones, production infrastructure as code with Terraform and/or Bicep, identity and governance with Entra ID, RBAC and Azure Policy, and Git-based pipeline automation. This is an onsite / hybrid role based in Johannesburg, supporting an AI Build Team.

The Environment

• Hybrid platform across Azure and a client private cloud, built on Microsoft enterprise landing zones and infrastructure as code

• Containerised, vendor-neutral infrastructure: Azure-native PaaS services and Kubernetes are deliberately avoided so workloads stay portable

• .NET / C# web APIs, with AI-assisted code generation using Intent Architect and GitHub Spec Kit

• AI solution components including OCR, document extraction, graph analytics and agentic AI

• Data residency controlled in the South African region, with LLMs hosted offshore

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Azure Landing Zones & Governance

• Design, deploy and evolve Azure Landing Zones, applying the landing zone model and weighing its design trade-offs

• Implement and manage Azure Policy to enforce governance guardrails

Identity & Access

• Implement and maintain Entra ID integration and Azure RBAC access models

Infrastructure as Code

• Build and maintain production Azure infrastructure using Terraform and/or Bicep

• Manage infrastructure code consistently across development, test and production environments

Containers & Hybrid Cloud

• Build and run containerised, vendor-neutral workloads that are portable between Azure and the private cloud (no Kubernetes)

• Enforce data residency controls so client data remains in the South African region

Pipeline & Delivery

• Build and automate CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and .NET / C# web API delivery

• Support the delivery and hosting of AI solution components (OCR, document extraction, graph analytics, agentic AI)

• Maintain Git-based workflows: branching, pull requests and code review

• Partner with dev teams to unblock delivery without compromising stability

Required Experience and Skills

Must-have

• 3+ years' hands-on DevOps or platform engineering experience, with strong Azure exposure

• Proven production experience with Terraform and/or Bicep

• Solid understanding of the Azure Landing Zone model and its design trade-offs

• Working knowledge of Entra ID, RBAC and Azure Policy

• Strong Git and pipeline automation skills

Advantageous

• Container build and runtime experience (e.g. Docker) outside of Kubernetes

• Hybrid / private cloud infrastructure alongside Azure

• CI/CD for .NET / C# web APIs

• GitHub (including GitHub Spec Kit) and/or Intent Architect exposure

• Deploying AI workloads: OCR, document extraction, graph analytics or agentic AI

• Data residency / sovereignty controls
