Databricks Workspace Administrator
- Remote, Hybrid
- Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa
- Data and Analytics & RPA (DAT)
We’re looking for a hands-on Databricks specialist with experience in workspace governance, identity management, SQL, monitoring, and tenant enablement within enterprise environments.
Job description
DVT is looking for a hands-on Databricks Workspace Administrator to take ownership of our Databricks platform operations at scale. This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, governance, and tenant enablement — ensuring that Databricks workspaces are secure, scalable, well-governed, and easy for teams to onboard and operate within.
This is not a purely infrastructure or ticket-driven administration role. We are looking for someone who can engage directly with tenant teams, support analytics, AI and Generative AI workloads, and continuously improve platform standards, monitoring, and automation capabilities.
You will play a key role in enabling teams to safely and efficiently leverage the Databricks ecosystem while maintaining strong governance and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
Databricks Workspace & Platform Administration
Act as Workspace Administrator across Databricks environments
Manage access controls, cluster policies, and job permissions
Enforce governance standards, environment separation, and usage guardrails
Implement cost and usage controls across tenant workspaces
SQL & Dashboard Management
Develop, maintain, and optimise SQL-based monitoring and operational dashboards
Support reporting and visibility into platform health, usage, and operational metrics
Catalog & Governance Management
Design and manage Unity Catalog structures including catalogs, schemas, tables, and views
Implement and maintain governance-aligned permission models
Ensure secure and compliant access patterns across tenants
Identity & Service Principal Management
Create and manage service principals, groups, and permission assignments
Support non-human identities for CI/CD pipelines, automation, and integrations
Partner with security and identity teams to maintain least-privilege access and auditability
Tenant Enablement & Engagement
Onboard and support tenant teams using the platform
Conduct enablement sessions to understand use cases and recommend best-practice workspace and access patterns
Provide guidance for analytics, machine learning, and Generative AI workloads
Platform Support & Continuous Improvement
Troubleshoot workspace configuration and access issues
Develop and maintain operational runbooks and onboarding documentation
Identify opportunities for automation, standardisation, and platform optimisation
Build and maintain monitoring and alerting pipelines/dashboards for platform-wide visibility
Examples may include:
Application usage monitoring
LLM token and rate-limit monitoring
Inference table dashboards
Anomaly and drift detection monitoring
Required Skills & Experience
2+ years’ hands-on experience as a Databricks Workspace Administrator
2+ years’ experience managing users, groups, service principals, and least-privilege access models
4+ years’ experience working with data engineering, analytics, AI/ML, or platform teams
Experience operating in enterprise and/or regulated environments with strong governance requirements
Strong SQL skills with dashboard development and maintenance experience
Experience with Hive/Glue and JDBC pipeline setup and maintenance within Databricks ecosystems
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage directly with multiple tenant teams
Desirable Experience
Experience supporting ML and Generative AI workloads on Databricks
Exposure to RAG-style architectures, model serving, and evaluation workflows
Experience integrating Databricks with CI/CD and automation pipelines
Familiarity with AWS and/or Azure cloud concepts relevant to Databricks operations
Experience contributing to platform standards, templates, and self-service onboarding capabilities
Ways of Working
We’re looking for someone who is:
Hands-on and delivery focused
Comfortable balancing governance with tenant productivity
Proactive in documentation and knowledge sharing
Passionate about platform enablement and continuous improvement
Collaborative and confident working across technical and business teams
